1940s Lone Star from Humble Quilts

One of the last quilts I opened from the estate was this beauty! It has been well loved.

Lovely hand quilting

I'm assuming it is from the 1940's.
The biggest problem with this quilt is the binding is pretty much non existent.  It was the color of the final blue tip. I think I'll see if I have a solid blue similar, replace it and keep this one. At least for awhile.

Have a terrific weekend!

New England Quilt Museum part 3 from Humble Quilts

Here are some of my favorites that were on display. These are part of the NEQM collection.

This quilt was huge and hard to photograph.

Keep an eye on the sashing of this quilt.

Simple but effective and so charming!

Here's a sweet dolly quilt in the NEQM collection.

The quilt Laura holds (on the right) was the little quilt she made for me for the Humble Quilt swap!

And here it is up close and personal. I LOVE it and treasure it!

I hope you enjoyed the exhibits I shared from the New England Quilt Museum.

Old Quilt From Maine from Humble Quilts

It's not in great shape but has some wonderful fabric and an interesting "batting".
Lovely madder.

Be still my heart.

An interesting Japanese lantern?

I squealed when I saw this print!

Just this one 4 patch with George Washington print.

Here is a reproduction of that same print.

This backing is so delicate looking.

It does have some stains. The width of the backing is 35".

The inside layer, which we would put cotton batting,  is this piece of fabric!

I've never seen that before. The quilt measures82"x77" so that "batting" is that large as well. Anybody ...

One Old Worn Out Quilt from Humble Quilts

Recently we went to a Living Celebration of Life for my Brother in Law. What a concept! I loved it. We went back up the following week and spent some time with my sister and brother in law. Make sure you let people know how important they are to you.

My sister in law has been forced to think about the "stuff" she will have after he passes.

Years ago we were at an auction together and she bought a quilt that had this quilt inside! She asked if I wanted it last week and I said yes.
This is ...

Antique Quilts For Sale at IQF from Humble Quilts

I never tire of seeing antique quilts! These were all for sale at the International Quilt Festival in Houston.  Enjoy the eye candy!

The dogtooth edge  is appliqued.

This one is a tad more humble. Super charming!

Mourning prints. I can't say I've seen many of these purple gray combinations.

I think these were about 1".

Love seeing the backs with lovely prints.

Love the border/nine patch!

This little one is the only one I could afford! The 3 little borders have been added at a later date than the center and stars. I love it! And ...

Houston Quilt Show -Antique Quilts from Humble Quilts

I always enjoy the antique quilts at the show! These were great!

Full quilt shown below

The color is really off on a few of these photos.

This is the info on the entire exhibit.

I loved them all!
Maybe the Carpenter's Wheel is a favorite.

Do you have a favorite?

PS My blog comments stopped coming to my email and I have several with no emails. If you asked a question I will reply at your comment on that specific blog post. (most of these were about Parsonsfield)

Aurora Part 2- Antique Quilts from Humble Quilts

These are some older quilts from the Aurora Quilt Show. Many belong to the historical society and were part of the Aurora Colony.

This is a cute setting using vintage blocks.

I can't say I've ever noticed that the applique was pulled into the seam!  I've seen this quilt many times over the years.

Here is my rendition I made (2011) after seeing the antique at the quilt show. Fabric hand dyed by former blogger Libby

I love the simple cross hatch quilting on this one.

I don't recall seeing this one before. It was charming ...

European Patchwork Vacation Part Two (Repost) from Humble Quilts

This is a repost from a blog post I wrote in 2015 about the quilt show in the Alsace region of France.

We left Paris early in the morning on the high speed train to Strasbourg, where we rented a car to drive to the villages that the European patchwork was taking place. It was so beautiful and quaint!
The first town we went to for the exhibit was Liepvre and the first building and the first quilt I saw was......
This amazing beauty! These were the " Quilts de Legende" Reproductions of antique quilts. They were all masterpieces!! I was ...

This is a repost from a blog post made in 2016

I was at the Quilt Expo for the quilt show and didn't get to show you these lovely antique quilts! They are probably all from the Latimer Quilt Museum

There is so much to love about these quilts!

Quilts on the Lawn (Repost) from Humble Quilts

This is a repost of a fun and quilty trip to WA- my road trip friend Laurie had a little show!

About now I should be immersed heavily into Roman History!

This wasn't a quilt on the lawn but it sure was a cute little quilt made with antique fabric that Laurie made and hung up for us to enjoy.

I went to Seattle with my friend, Michelle, on the left, picked up Juliann, on the right, and made our way to Marysville where Laurie (center, in blue) had a quilt show of Anthologie quilts. The weather has been ...

Winterset, Iowa Quilt Museum Photo Heavy! from Humble Quilts

The Iowa Quilt Museum is in Winterset, Iowa. I think this was one of my favorite towns that we visited! The women at the museum were unbelievably friendly and in general everyone in town was pretty pleasant. (we also picked up a couple of cute pieces of clothing and Laurie bought an antique quilt!)

But for the special exhibit at the museum was HOUSES!

A celebration of house quilts! WOW! Each one unique and so wonderful!

We liked this one a lot made from antique quilt blocks.

It was so special to see Wendy's potholder style house quilt at ...

Ohio's Miami Valley Quilts in the Museum (Photo heavy!) from Humble Quilts

Because I made this quilt in 2016 I was really looking forward to seeing the exhibit of Ohio's Miami Valley quilts at the International Quilt Museum!

Here is my finished quilt:

Karen Beigh and I did this one together and she was instrumental in designing our quilts!

These were the books we used.

Sue Cummings book does not have patterns but inspiration.

Anita Shackelford does have patterns in her booklet.

I don't have much to say about these quilts so I'll let you enjoy! They were really incredible!

Loved the quilting!

So doggone cute!

My favorite of ...

These were pretty incredible!

Teeny tiny!

Who doesn't love a house quilt?

This one had tiny little 3d door knobs!

I see the arrow first. Creative and a bit humble!

I hope you enjoy this post and future posts of our quilty roadtrip!

A Visit With Donna & Folsom from Humble Quilts

Donna was co chair of the programs at the guild I visited last week. She graciously opened her home for a personal show and tell! (Truth be told I invited myself over but did give her the option to say no)

I'm dividing this into 2 posts. Today is antique quilts.

Seriously so charming!

Be still my heart!

This was a family quilt that she had  quilted and was enjoying it in her living area.

Love the corner whirlygigs!

She had several more family quilts that she was going to finish and give them to family members. Such a ...

1864 Quilt from Humble Quilts

At the quilt show I vended at earlier this year I met a woman who wanted to sell a quilt. She shared a few photos from her phone and told her I'd be back in the area to teach later in the year. Well, she wrote and we met and I was able to see the quilt in person. It's a treasure! It belongs to me at the moment but I do plan on selling it.

I thought this was the letter Q- lol. I posted it on an antique quilt group and it appears to be a ...

Isn't She Lovely? from From the Strawberry Patch...

Good morning! I have to share with you this latest treasure that has crossed my path, I couldn't be more tickled! A friend has trusted me with the safekeeping of this Sunbonnet Sue quilt made in 1930 by her maternal grandmother. This was her grandmother's first and only quilt! She was part Cherokee and likely learned to stich from her mother. She was from Missouri, later moved to California where

Repost Antique Quilt Inspiration from Humble Quilts

This is a repost of a blog post from several years ago. I sure miss the antique quilt dealers at the Sisters Quilt Show! They had some real beauties

I love this sign that is big and direct! It reminds me of the newspaper boys that used to holler trying to sell papers but instead, in Sisters they'd be shouting, "Antique quilts for sale! Get your antique quilts here!"
I swear, the pile that greeted me was even larger then in previous years! Did you notice how many people are shopping? NONE I was only alone for a few ...

Airing of the Quilts 2015

I saw a blurb on Bill's facebook about a quilt show and lecture he was doing this past
weekend, so I took the opportunity to go to my first quilt show of the year!
I met Bill Volckening at the debut of the Oregon Quilt Documentation
project in 2010 and we run into each other now and then.

He had a small exhibit of botanical quilts on display. If you have ...

A Vintage Little Quilt from Humble Quilts

A sweet online friend, Julie, sent me this adorable little quilt top! She saw it at an antique shop and thought of me! Oh my goodness, that touches my heart! Thank you Julie!

The blocks are handpieced. Look at this wonderful print!

The setting squares are machine pieced so I believe that part came later. Love this cheddar on blue print! I want to baste it and quilt it as is!!

I took part in a Meet the Teacher event online this past Saturday. This is where guilds meet teachers to possibly hire for their guild. It was a wonderful ...
